The High Court on Tuesday asked the jail authorities to respond in 30 days to a lawyer鈥檚 letter seeking post-mortem reports of 13 leaders of the main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party, who died in jail custody before January 7 parliamentary elections and in the aftermath of it.聽聽聽聽聽

Lawyer Kayser Kamal, also a BNP leader, sent the letter to several jails on February 28.

The bench of Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam and Justice SM Masud Hossain Dolon issued the directive during a hearing on a writ petition filed by Kayser Kamal seeking a directive to hold a judiciary inquiry into death of opposition leaders.

Attorney general AM Amin Uddin argued in the High Court to reject the writ petition summarily as no family members of the deceased BNP leaders appeared before the court seeking such a relief.

Kayser Kamal told the court that no family member had dared to file a complaint over the deaths.
