Mumtarin Ferdous Dorin, the daughter of slain ruling Awami League lawmaker Anwarul Azim Anar, did not get an Indian visa till Thursday as she was waiting to go to Kolkata to give a sample for a DNA test to identify her father’s body who was reportedly killed in a New Town flat.
‘She [Mumtarin] submitted an application to the Indian visa application centre in Dhaka on May 22 seeking visa. But till today [Thursday evening] she did not get back her passport,’ Anwarul’s personal secretary Abdur Rouf told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ·.
Jhenaidah-4 constituency lawmaker Anwarul went to Kolkata on May 11 and is believed to be killed in a New Town flat as he has remained missing since May 14.
On Tuesday night, the Criminal Investigation Department of the Kolkata police recovered some human body parts from the sewerage line of a New Town flat where Anwarul was allegedly killed.
The Kolkata CID conducted the search on request from Harun Or Rashid, chief of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police detective branch, who led a three-member team of the Dhaka police in visiting Kolkata.
The team returned to Dhaka on Thursday and on arriving at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, Harun told reporters that the recovered body parts were believed to be of the murdered Anwarul, but it would be confirmed after the DNA and forensic tests.
The Bangladesh detectives requested the Indian authorities to send the forensic and DNA test reports of the recovered body parts as soon as possible, he said.
‘We spoke with Anwarul’s daughter Dorin. She has already applied for the visa and would soon go to India for the DNA test,’ he said.
Dorin on Wednesday at her Jhenaidah residence told reporters that she would leave for Kolkata just after getting the Indian visa.
‘They were supposed to give me visa. They [visa centre] said that a text would come in my phone, and they would give me the passport today [Wednesday]. I will go to India after getting the visa,’ she said.
She further said that her uncle and Anwarul’s private secretary Rouf would accompany her to Kolkata.
She said that on Tuesday night she talked with DB chief Harun who asked her to go to Kolkata.
‘I asked about the update there. He [Harun] asked me to go to India. He also said that I can take my uncle or someone from blood relatives with me.’
The Kolkata police and Dhaka police are investigating the matter.
