
Three fishermen have been missing in Satkhira since the day before cyclone Remal struck the coast on May 26, according to their family members.
The missing fishermen are Md Saidur Rahman, 42, Md Haider Ali, 30, and Lifon, 30, of Shyamnagar upazila in the district.
They went fishing in the Sundarbans on May 25 with a permit from the Kobadak forest station in the Khulna range of West Sundarbans.
The storm brought heavy wind and rain. The bad weather, it triggered, lasted for May 28.
Family members said that the missing fishermen last contacted them through mobile phone on May 25, the day they went for fishing.
They have not been able to contact the fishermen since Remal hit on May 26, a week ago. AZM Hasanur Rahman, assistant conservator of forests of West Sundarbans Khulna range said that he was aware of the news of three missing fishermen.
‘We are checking – how many of them went and how many returned. The forest department will work to rescue the missing fishermen as soon as the information is received,’ he added.
