Evaly chief executive officer Mohammad Rassel and his wife Shamima Nasrin were sentenced to one year in prison and fined Tk 1,80,000 for cheque fraud by a Chattogram court on Sunday.

M Mohiuddin of the Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court passed the verdict, confirmed assistant public prosecutor MS Hosen Shahed.


In 2021, a victim named Jasim Uddin Abid of Hamzerbag area in Panchlaish Thana filed a case against Rassel and Shamima for cheque bouncing.

The judge sentenced both to one year of imprisonment and imposed a fine equivalent to the amount of the bounced cheque.

Following a customer鈥檚 complaint, the Rapid Action Battalion arrested Rassel and Shamima at Mohammadpur in Dhaka on September 16, 2021. They were subsequently shown as arrested in various other cases and remanded for further investigation.

On December 19, 2023, Shamima was granted conditional bail after one year to facilitate the restructuring of Evaly鈥檚 accounts. The couple were facing over 350 cases across the country related to cheque forgery and other fraudulent activities.
