Senior lawyer Dr Kamal Hossain urged the government to take immediate action at the highest level to address the sufferings of Malaysia-bound workers, as reported by ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· on June 1.

He made the call in a letter to foreign secretary Masud Bin Momen on June 1, on behalf of Dr Kamal Hossain and Associates.

The ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· report detailed that thousands of Bangladeshis were stranded at Dhaka and Kuala Lumpur airports, amid a last-minute rush before Malaysia shut its doors to migrant workers on May 31.

In his letter, Kamal Hossain cited excerpts from the report, highlighting the urgent need for government intervention.

‘Many aspiring migrants said that they could not secure tickets despite being willing to pay a high price, while many, who managed to reach Kuala Lumpur, were not received by their recruiters’, he quoted from the report.

‘This situation requires immediate government action at the highest level to resolve this crisis, as it affects the livelihood of thousands and impacts the human rights of their families, who rely on these migrant workers’, Dr Kamal Hossain wrote to the secretary.

He further emphasised that intervention at the highest level was necessary to find a solution to this crisis.

The lawyer also quoted the report stating, ‘the bureau of manpower, employment, and training’s immigration director Sadeq Ahmed said that they had stopped issuing clearance as many, who already had clearance, could not fly due to a ticket shortage’.
