
Today is the seventh death anniversary of former chief justice and former caretaker government chief adviser Latifur Rahman.
On the occasion, dua and milad mahfils at different places, including at his Jashore residence, and distribution of food at orphanages in Jashore will be organised today to mark the day, according to a press release.
Justice Latifur died on June 6, 2017.
Born in Jashore in 1936, he studied in English literature at Dhaka University and later completed his LLB in law from the same university. He began his career as a lawyer at the Dhaka High Court in 1960.
He was appointed as an additional judge at the High Court Division in 1979 and later became an Appellate Division judge on January 15, 1991.
He became the chief justice on January 1, 2001, and went on retirement on February 28 of the same year.
Latifur Rahman was the chief adviser to the 2001 caretaker government between July 15, 2001 and October 10, 2001 during the eighth parliamentary elections in Bangladesh.
