
At least three Bangladeshis, including a farmer, were injured as the Indian Border Security Force shot at them reportedly entering the Bangladesh territory near the Hatibandha border in Lalmonirhat on Friday.
Border Guard Bangladesh Singimari BOP camp commander Safizul Islam said that the incident took place at about 4:30pm in the middle of sub-pillars 8-9 of main pillar number 893 of the Singimari border.
One of the injured is Altab Hossain, 55, son of Bacha Sheikh in the area.
Hatibandha police officer-in-charge Md Saiful Islam said that the three injured were undergoing treatment at Hatibandha Health Complex but their identity could not be known.
Locals said that the BSF members opened fire targeting Altab Hossain when he was working in the field.
Local people rescued him and took him to Rangpur Medical College Hospital for better treatment.
A witness and Singimari union parishad member Samchul Islam said that the injured Altab Hossain was shot in the chest.
Quoting the locals, he further said that the BSF fired from close range.
A flag meeting was held in this connection.
