The members of the Rapid Action Battalion arrested a fugitive leader of the banned extremist outfit Hizb ut-Tahrir from the capital鈥檚 Adabor area on Friday evening.
The arrested is Nafis Salam Udoy, 47, son of Md Abdus Salam, of Adabor area in the city.
鈥楢 special team of the RAB-2 raided the area at about 11:00pm on Friday and arrested him. There are five anti-terrorism and a police assault cases against him,鈥� senior assistant director (media) of the RAB-2 M Shihab Karim said on Saturday.
鈥楤esides promoting radical extremist books declared banned in different parts of the country, he was also encouraging the young generation to extremism. He was in regular contact with the group leaders of Hizb ut-Tahrir and used to distribute anti-state and anti-government leaflets and invite the youth to various mosques to discuss extremist propaganda,鈥� the RAB official said.
Necessary legal action has been taken against him, he added.
