The High Court on Tuesday granted bail to detained journalist Syed Ashfaqul Haque in a case filed over the death of his domestic worker Preeti Urang.

The bench of Justice Rezaul Hasan and Justice Fahmida Quader granted the bail.

On April 22, the bench granted ad interim bail to Ashfaq’ wife Tania Khondokar in the same case while it asked the government to explain in four weeks why Ashfaq would not be granted bail.

Preeti Urang, a minor girl, daughter of a tea worker in Moulvibazar, died falling from Ashfaq’s eighth-floor flat at Mohammadpur in the capital on February 6.

The police arrested the couple soon after the victim’s father filed a case against the couple for

their alleged negligence that led to Preeti’s falling from the floor, which had no fence.

Lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan appeared for the couple.
