The Natore district police withdrew assistant sub-inspector Abdus Selim on Saturday night after a video of him beating a rickshaw puller went viral earlier that day.

Selim was withdrawn from Singra police station and attached to the district police lines after an allegation surfaced that he beat a rickshaw puller, said Md Shariful Islam, additional superintendent, admin and finance, of the Natore district police.


He said that a three-member probe committee, headed by assistant superintendent of police, Singra circle, Md Aktaruzzaman, was formed to conduct an investigation and necessary actions would be taken as per the recommendation of the committee.

A video of Abdus Selim beating a rickshaw puller went viral on social media on Saturday.

In the clip, Selim was seen beating the rickshaw puller with a torch. He was also heard telling the rickshaw puller, ‘I am telling you to take us there. If you don’t, I am going to rip your ears off.’

The victim rickshaw puller, Harun Ali, told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· on Saturday that three police members stopped him near upazila court when he was heading towards the Singra bus stand to repair his battery-run rickshaw as it suffered from a mechanical failure on Thursday midnight.

‘The three police members sat in my rickshaw and asked me to take them to the police station. When I informed them that I was going to Singra bus stand to repair the rickshaw’s meter, the ASI started beating me,’ he alleged.

Harun Ali added that he was forced to pull the rickshaw with three police members to Singra bus stand.
