Md Mostafizur Rahman, arrested in a case filed over the murder of Jhenaidah-4 constituency parliament member Anwarul Azim Anar in India’s West Bengal, made confessional statement before a Dhaka court on Friday.

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police detective branch senior assistant commissioner Mahfuzur Rahman, also the investigation officer of the abduction case filed with the Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police station in connection with Anar’s murder in India, applied to the court for taking his confessional statement.


Dhaka additional chief metropolitan magistrate Tofazzal Hossain recorded his confessional statement under section 164, DB officials involved in the investigation confirmed to ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ·.

They said that Mahfuzur Rahman was sent to jail.  

On June 26, a DMP’s DB team led by its chief Harun-or-Rashid arrested two suspects – Md Mostafizur Rahman and Foysal Sahaji – in the Chhatogram’s Sitakunda area, conducting drives in the district and Khagrachari.

On June 27, the court placed Mostafizur Rahman and Foysal Sahaji to six-day remand, and now Foysal Sahaji is now on remand.

Mostafiz and Foysal went to Kolkata before Anwarul’s arrival in India and returned home on May 19, the DMP DB chief Harun said on June 26, adding that they were paid Tk 30,000 each for their involvement in the murder.

On May 22, Anwarul’s daughter Mumtarin Ferdous Dorin filed a case with the Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police station, alleging that her father was abducted with the intent to murder.

Anwarul Azim went to India for medical treatment on May 11 and went missing on May 13.

On May 22, detectives in Kolkata confirmed that he was murdered.

On June 9, the CID in West Bengal recovered some bones, suspected to be of Anwarul’s, from a spot on the bank of a canal near Polerhat in North 24 Parganas, around 15 kilometers away from the New Town apartment where Anar was reportedly murdered and his body was dismembered, according to Indian media reports.

On May 28, the Kolkata CID recovered four kilograms of flesh, suspected to be of Anwarul’s, from a septic tank of Sanjeeva Gardens in Kolkata.
