
A Chattogram court on Wednesday sentenced a man to death in a case for murdering his wife in the city鈥檚 Bakolia area around two years ago.
The convict is Md Jamal, 35, son of the late Jonab Ali of Musagara village under Muradnagar upazila of Cumilla.
Chattogram Metropolitan Session Judge Court Judge Jebunnesa Begum also fined the convict Tk 50,000, in default of which he will have to serve additional six months in prison, said the court鈥檚 public prosecutor Md Abdur Rashid.
According to the case statement, Jamal and his wife Parvin Akter, who used to live in a shanty of Bastuhara Colony in Bakolia area of the city, often locked into an altercation over family issues since their marriage in 2020.
Noticing their frequent quarrels, the house owner asked them to leave it and on January 17 in 2022, the landlord found the door of the shanty locked from outside.
Later, he spotted the victim鈥檚 body wrapped in a blanket lying on the bed and informed the police.
The victim鈥檚 sister Babe Akter filed a murder case accusing Jamal with the concerned police station.
After completing the legal procedures, the court handed down the judgment in the presence of the accused.
