Dhaka metropolitan senior special judge court on Thursday ordered the seizure of huge assets, including a nine-storey building, owned by Mohammed Enamul Hoque, commissioner of the National Board of Revenue’s Customs, Excise, and VAT Commissionerate in Sylhet, who was facing allegations of amassing illegal wealth.

Judge Mohammed Ash-Shams Joglul Hossain passed the order after hearing an ACC petition submitted by its deputy director, Farzana Yasmeen, seeking an order of seizure.

ACC, in the petition, told the court that it was known from reliable sources that the accused was trying to transfer the immovable property and that a court order was required to seize the assets, said ACC lawyer Mahmud Hossain Jahangir.

‘If the accused manages to sell off his properties, our goal of seizing the properties after completion of the investigation and trial will be  hampered,’ ACC said in its petition.

The ACC filed a case against Enamul Haque on July 31, 2023, alleging that he amassed wealth worth Tk 9.76 crore beyond known sources of income.

The court ordered the seizure of the nine-storey building on his three-katha land on Road No. 13 at Block-G in Bashundhara residential area in Dhaka, two flats in Banani and Kakrail in Dhaka, three commercial spaces in Mohammadpur in Dhaka, and a car parking lot in Gulshan.

At the same time, the court also ordered the seizure of lands owned by Enamul Haque in Gazipur and Badda in Dhaka.

The same court on Thursday also ordered the seizure of the immovable wealth of NBR member Matiur Rahman and his family members, who were also facing an ACC inquiry into graft allegations.

On June 27, the court ordered the seizure of NBR First Secretary Quazi Abu Mahmud Faisal and his family’s immovable assets and the freezing of his movable assets.
