Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University vice-chancellor professor Deen Mohd Noorul Huq said that the university would open paediatric intensive care unit or PICU with the existing manpower very soon.

He made the announcement at a meeting held with department heads and teachers of paediatrics faculty, teachers of anaesthesia analgesia intensive care medicine department and paediatric surgery department on BSMMU campus recently, said a press release.


Professor Noorul Huq also gave necessary directions in this regard.

The university, currently, has ICU, CCU, NICU but no PICU, an area within a hospital specialising in the care of critically ill infants, children, teenagers, and young adults aged 0–21.

BSMMU’s pro-vice-chancellor (administration) professor Saif Uddin Ahmed, pro-vice-chancellor (research and development) professor Md Moniruzzaman Khan, pro-vice-chancellor (academic) professor Mohammed Atiqur Rahman, registrar professor ABM Abdul Hannan, proctor professor Md Habibur Rahman Dulal, dean of dental faculty professor Mohammad Ali Asgar Moral, dean of paediatrics faculty professor Manik Kumar Talukder, dean of nursing faculty professor Debbrata Banik, professor Md Zahid Hossain, professor Suraiya Begum, professor AKM Zahid Hossain, professor Sushankar Mandal, professor Ranjit Ranjan Roy, professor Md Abdul Mannan, professor ATM Atiqur Rahman and others were present.
