The Anti-Corruption Commission started an inquiry into the allegations of irregularities and corruption at the Central Packing House project of the Department of Agriculture Extension.

A team of the commission led by its assistant director Nur Alam Siddique on Monday conducted a drive at the central packing house in Shampur in the capital and found primary evidence in support of the allegations, said commission deputy director for public relations Aktarul Islam.


According to documents describing the allegations, the government in 2021 undertook to build an international standard laboratory of the central packing house under the agricultural extension department to facilitate quality checking and packing of agriculture products before export.

Undertaken at an estimated cost of Tk 158 ​​crore, the project will be completed by June 2025.

Only the piling work started for the construction of the 6-storey building under the project, but Tk 4.75 crore out of Tk 12 crore of civil works, was released to the contracting company M/s Multibridge International violating rules, according to the allegations.

Apart from this, the contractor Kernel International was supposed to supply 18 new machines to the toxicology lab at the central packing house, but Tk 11.8 crore was released from the state treasury to this company although they did not supply any single machine.
