Bangladesh government on Tuesday suspended Thursday's Higher Secondary Certificate and equivalent examinations amid ongoing student protests demanding quota reform.

Dhaka education board chairman professor Tapan Kumar Sarkar told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that the decision was taken for ‘unavoidable reasons’.

The exams, scheduled for July 21, would be held as per the schedule, he said.

The government decision came on the day when ruling Awami League’s student wing Bangladesh Chhatra League and police locked in clashes with quota protesters at places in the country, leaving at least five people dead and scores injured.
