Amid the ongoing student protests for quota reform, mobile users nationwide faced difficulties, accessing internet services provided by telecom operators since Wednesday.
On Thursday, they complained that this disruption hindered their ability to use social media platforms, impacting users, who primarily rely on the 4G network for mobile internet access.
According to reports from users across the country, even access to the 4G network had been unavailable.
As a response to the unrest prompted by the quota reform movement, state minister for posts, telecommunications, and information technology, Zunaid Ahmed Palak, announced the temporary shutdown of mobile internet services.
Palak stated during a press briefing at the ICT Tower in Dhaka鈥檚 Agargaon that the services were halted due to the current instability surrounding the protests.
He, however, assured that connectivity would be restored promptly once the situation stabilised.
Since July 16, the 4G network has remained inactive in all universities throughout Bangladesh; although users can still utilise the 2G network for traditional voice calls through mobile networks.
