
All the three bodies of the missing people were recovered after a trawler and a speedboat capsized on the way to St Martins Island from Teknaf in Cox鈥檚 Bazar Friday morning.
Two bodies were found on Teknaf West Beach at about 10:00am, confirmed by Teknaf police station officer-in-charge Muhammad Osman Gani.
Another body was recovered from Shahpari Island at about 3:30pm, said St Martins union parishad chairman Mujibur Rahman.
The deceased are Md Ismail, 28, son of Azam Ali, Md Fahad, 30, son of Abdur Rahman, and Noor Mohammad Saikat, 27, all the residents of St Martins Island.
Quoting locals, OC Osman Gani stated that several people went missing when a trawler sank near Shahpari Island on the Teknaf-St Martins route. Subsequently, rescue efforts involved four speedboats, one of which sank due to strong waves. Since then, three people had been missing.
The police officer mentioned that legal action was underway to hand over the bodies to relatives.
On Wednesday, a fishing trawler, carrying 12 people, sank on its way from Teknaf to St Martins Island.
Although 11 people were rescued by locals, Noor Mohammad Saikat remained missing. Later, while searching for him, two more youths went missing after a speedboat sank in the evening.
