The six-member investigation committee formed by home ministry’s security services department visited Narsingdi district jail on Sunday for inspection.

During a press briefing after the visit, Farooq Ahmed, chief joint secretary of the committee, stated that they spoke to eyewitnesses of the attack on the jail.

‘Video footages, obtained from various sources, are being reviewed. We hope, the investigation will be completed within the given time,’ he said.

Narsingdi additional district magistrate Tazwar Akram Sakapi Ibn Sajjad, additional superintendent of police (Sadar circle) KM Shahidul Islam Sohag, and others also visited the prison.

The jailbreak occurred at about 4:00 pm on July 19 amidst chaotic demonstrations outside the jail, located along the Dhaka-Sylhet highway.

Protesters set government offices ablaze, blocked the highway, and confined local ruling Awami League leaders to their residences.

The inmates set fire to the jail before breaking through the main entrance and escaping in large numbers.
