The High Court on Monday asked the Anti-Corruption Commission to take action against former inspector general of police Benazir Ahmed and the members of his family after completing the inquiry into his alleged illegal assets.

The bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice Kazi Ebadoth asked the ACC to submit the progress report to it on November 5.

The court passed the order after hearing a progress report on the ongoing inquiries into amassing wealth by Benazir Ahmed and his family.

The commission found in its report that Benazir, his wife, and their two daughters amassed wealth, both movable and immovable, worth around Tk 44 crore beyond known sources of income.

The inquiry body headed by its deputy director Hafizul Islam submitted its initial report to the commission on July 1.

On April 22, the High Court asked the ACC to report to the court the progress of its probes into the reported amassing of a disproportionate amount of assets by Benazir, his wife, and their two daughters, two months after hearing a writ petition filed by Supreme Court lawyer Md Salah Uddin Regan.
