The Anti-Corruption Commission on Wednesday sent a letter to the Bangladesh Public Service Commission seeking necessary information about its five officials over allegations of amassing illegal wealth.

A letter was sent to the PSC seeking information about five officials to facilitate a proper inquiry into the allegations brought against them, said a member of the ACC inquiry team.聽

The officials and employees are PSC deputy directors Md Abu Zafar and Md Jahangir Alam, assistant director SM Alamgir Kabir, office assistant Khalilur Rahman, and office assistant (dispatch)

Earlier, the commission on July 18 formed a five-member inquiry team headed by its deputy director Md Jahangir Alam, to conduct the inquiry into allegations of amassing illegal wealth through leaking question papers of different recruitment tests, including PSC exams.

On July 10, the Bangladesh Public Service Commission sent a letter to the ACC seeking an inquiry against its five officials over allegations of amassing illegal wealth.

The PSC in the letter said that a case was filed with the Paltan police station against the five employees of the PSC and some others for their alleged involvement in illegally collecting the question papers and distributing them before the examination for the post of deputy assistant engineer of Bangladesh Railway held on July 6, 2024.

It was reported that the PSC officials and their family members amassed a huge amount of illegal movable and immovable wealth, which was inconsistent with their sources of income, said the PSC.

Accumulation of wealth beyond known sources of income is a scheduled offence under the Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2004, the PSC said, adding that it is necessary to take legal measures in this regard.

The PSC requested the commission to conduct inquiry into the allegations against the five employees and take legal action in accordance with the Anti-Corruption Commission Rules 2007.

Earlier, at least 17 people including five serving officials of the PSC and PSC chairman鈥檚 former driver Syed Abed Ali, were arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department for their alleged involvement in leaking questions for government job exams.
