‘400 Ansar Battalion members were deployed in 50 police stations under the DMP. Eight members are in each station for restoring law and order,’ said Md Rubel Hossain, an assistant director and mass communication officer of the force.
The force 726 members were deployed for controlling traffic on the city road as the regular traffic police were not seen in places from Tuesday.
Sheikh Hasina resigned as prime minister and fled the country on Monday after a student-led mass uprising, which killed over 400 people, including students and police.
Unruly people put fire and vandalised police stations and traffic police boxed in the capital and across the country, which forced police members to flee places.
On Tuesday, authorities decided to deploy Ansars alongside army personnel to protect police stations across the country, manage Dhaka city traffic, among others.
The Ansar members are performing traffic duty in three shifts with the students on city roads. Another 100 Ansar Guard Battalion members were deployed in Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital.
