The vice-chancellors of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur and Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University in Dinajpur resigned from their posts on Friday following student demand.

HSTU proctor, student affairs and advisory division director also resigned from his/her post this day.


After the resignation of 29 top officials including the vice chancellor, two pro-vice chancellors of Rajshahi University also resigned on Thursday night from their respective posts.

With these decisions made, vice-chancellors of six public universities also resigned from their posts after former prime minister Sheikh Hasina resigned from her post on August 5 amid student protests.

抖阴精品 correspondent in Rangpur reported that BRUR vice-chancellor professor Md Hasibur Rashid submitted his resignation letter to president Mohammed Shahabuddin on Friday.

Confirming the news, the university鈥檚 public relation wing additional director Mohammad Ali said that the vice-chancellor had resigned following the demand of the Student Movement Against Discrimination.

Abu Sayeed, 22, a 12th batch student of the English department at the university and one of the quota reform movement organisers, was killed on July 16 in an hour-long clash between police, the ruling Awami League-backed student organisation Bangladesh Chhatra League and quota protesters on campus.

Video footage showed the police shooting at Sayeed, who posed no physical threat to the law enforcers, during the demonstration in front of the main entrance of the University.

The protesters seized the official residence of the vice-chancellor on the campus on July 16 demanding his resignation.

Later, law enforcement agencies members rescued the vice-chancellor.

Professor Rashid joined as the vice-chancellor on 14 June 2021.

Earlier on August 6, the university鈥檚 proctor Shariful Islam, student affairs director Syed Anowerul Azim (in charge), external affairs director Md Sabbir Ahmed Chowdhury (in charge), director transport pool professor Md Kamruzzaman, director library professor Md Gazi Mazharul Anwar and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall provost professor Bijan Mohon Chaki resigned from their posts.

On Friday, HSTU vice-chancellor professor M Kamruzzaman, proctor professor Md Mamunur Rashid and student affairs and advisory division director professor Md Mahabub Hossain resigned from their posts.

Confirming the news the university registrar (additional charge) professor Md Saifur Rahman said that the vice-chancellor submitted his resignation to the president on Friday noon.

Professor Mamunur Rashid said that him and professor Mahabub Hossain submitted their resignation letters to the university registrar that day.

Zakir Hossain, secretary of RU vice chancellor office, told 抖阴精品 on Friday morning that pro-vice chancellor (administration) Professor Sultan-Ul-Islam and pro-vice chancellor (academic) Professor M Humayun Kabir submitted their resignation letters to the president on Thursday night, citing personal reasons, reported 抖阴精品 correspondent in Rajshahi.

Twenty-nine top RU officials, including the vice-chancellor professor Golam Shabbir Sattar, resigned from their posts on Thursday after the Student Movement Against Discrimination had issued an ultimatum on Thursday noon urging them to resign within the next 24 hours.

Dhaka University correspondent reported that the university students on Friday staged a protest rally in front of the Raju Memorial Sculpture demanding resignation of vice-chancellor ASM Maksud Kamal, pro-vice-chancellor (administration and academics), treasurer, provosts and all syndicate members.

They alleged that the vice-chancellor did nothing when the university students came under attacks during the protests.

Islamic University in Kushtia鈥檚 vice-chancellor professor Shaikh Abdus Salam, pro-vice-chancellor professor M Mahbubur Rahman and treasurer professor M Alamgir Hossain, also resigned from their posts on Thursday.

At Dhaka University on Thursday, 13 out of a 14-member proctorial body resigned.

On August 7, Jahangirnagar University vice-chancellor professor Nurul Alam and registrar Abu Hasan resigned from their posts.

Dhaka City College principal professor Bedar Uddin Ahmed also resigned from his post on August 7.

Earlier on August 6, professor Alamgir Kabir quit from the posts of JU proctor and provost of the university鈥檚 Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Hall.

The vice-chancellor of Maulana Bhashani Science and Technology University professor Md Farhad Hossain and five other senior officials resigned from their posts on the night of August 5.
