Mayer Daak, a platform of enforced disappearance and extrajudicial killing victims’ family members, on Sunday, demanded that the members of security forces involved in enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings be brought under speedy trials.

At a human chain at the Central Shaheed Minar, Mayer Daak also demanded the safe return of their loved ones from the secret detention known as ‘Aynaghor,’ and the constitution of a commission by eminent citizens under the United Nations on enforced disappearances.

Sanjida Islam, a coordinator of Mayer Daak, while making the demands said the commission should investigate the enforced disappearances thoroughly and provide assistance to the trial.

The coordinator also said the location of the secret detention cells should be identified and turned into museums.

The family members, including children of enforced disappearances, coordinators of the anti-discrimination students’ movement and rights activists attended the human chain, according to a press release of the organisation.

Rights organisations have been saying that security forces were responsible for more than 600 enforced disappearances since 2009.

While some people were later released, produced in court, or said to have died in an armed exchange with security forces, about 100 people remain missing.

Afroza Islam, another coordinator of the Mayer Daak, said they were allowed to hold a programme at the Central Shaheed Minar for the first time.
