Leaders of Garment Workers’ Trade Union Centre and Garments Sramik Front on Friday at two separate rallies in Dhaka demanded trials of killers of the workers killed in the recent students’ movements for quota reform and garment workers’ movements for increasing wages.

They also demanded free trade union in the garment factories.


Chaired by president of the organisation Mantu Ghosh, the Garment Workers’ Trade Union Centre held a rally in front of the National Press Club.

Mantu Ghosh called on the interim government to take steps for holding trials of the killers of the garment workers during the students’ movements against discrimination and during the movements of workers for increasing wages of the garment workers in 2023.

He also called on the interim government to take steps for increasing wages of the garment workers and ensuring trade union rights of the workers in the garment factories.

Vice-president of the organisation Joly Talukder demanded withdrawal of the cases field against the workers during the movements of the workers in 2023.

General secretary of the organisation Sadequr Rahman Shamim, adviser Abdullah Kafee Ratan, central leaders Jiaul Kabir Khokan, Monzur Moin, among others, spoke at the rally, which was followed by a protest procession that paraded different city roads.

The Garment Sramik Front also held a rally in front of the National Press Club, demanding trials of the killers of the workers during movements.

President of the front, Ahsan Habib Bulbul, called on the interim government to introduce rationing system for the garment workers from where they could buy essential commodities in cheaper prices.

General secretary of the organisation Selim Mahmud, labour leader Kazi Ruhul Amin, central leader of the organisation Khalequzzaman Lipon, among others, spoke at the rally, which was also followed by a protest procession that paraded different city roads.
