
People in different groups on Thursday gathered in front of the Bangladesh Secretariat to press home their demands including assurance of employment, continuation of the migration system in cluster admission tests and nationalisation of ibtedayi madrassahs.Â
Government project staff, university admission test candidates and madrassah teachers staged demonstrations pressing their demands to the interim government formed after a student-led mass upring that forced Sheikh Hasina to resign as prime minister and flee to India on August 5.
A group of government project staff held a rally in front of the secretariat under the banner of ‘Prokalper Subidha Banchita Karmakarta Karmacharibrinda’ demanding assurance of employment.
A group of staff members of government project ‘Nagar Bhittik Prantik Mohila Unnayan’ of Jatiya Mahila Sangstha under the women and children affairs ministry said that the project’s second phase ended in 2022 but the High Court in 2015 and the Supreme Court in 2017 gave verdicts asking the authorities concerned to include the project in revenue sector.
Nizam Uddin, a credit supervisor of the project, said that the authorities concerned did not shift the project despite the verdicts.
‘We are demanding assurance of our employment. The authorities should include us in revenue sector or continue the project,’ said Nizam.
Atiqur Rahman, a credit supervisor of the project, said that the authorities talked of initiating a new project titled ‘Gramkendrik Narider Karmasangsthanmulak Proshikkhon’ but they were yet to initiate the project.
‘The authorities should start the project ensuring our employment in the project,’ he said.  Â
People in different groups are nowadays seen staging demonstrations, mostly in front of the state guest house Jamuna, the Bangladesh Secretariat, the National Press Club to press home their demands to the interim government since its formation.
University admission test candidates under the banner of Sadharan Parikkharthibrinda, Gucchobhukto Bishwabidyalay Bhorti Parikkha 2023-24 Session held a separate rally in front of the secretariat to press home their three-point demand.
The demands included investigation into corruption in making merit lists and cancellation of the previous merit lists in case of corruption, issuing the merit list and migration for the general, science and technology cluster after publishing results of the agricultural cluster examination, ensuring university and subject migration systems to remain active even after the final admission and not stopping the migrations even after classes start, Sajjad Sharif, a protesting student, said.
Apart from these, another group under the banner of Bangladesh Satantra Ibtedayi Madrassah Shikkhak Samiti also staged a demonstration demanding nationalisation of ibtedayi madrassahs.
Earlier on Wednesday, people in different groups staged demonstrations in front of the secretariat to press home their demands including permanent jobs, employment opportunities and resignation of directors of the Bangladesh Cricket Board.
