
A platform named Ganatantrik Odhikar Committee was formed with Professor emeritus Serajul Islam Choudhury as its convener to stand against any measures against the deprivation of democratic rights and freedom of expression in Bangladesh.
The committee was formed with more than one hundred people, including teachers, students, writers, journalists, artists, lawyers, and doctors from various professions of society.
The committee was announced from a meeting at Teacher-Student Centre Cafeteria of Dhaka University on Thursday, said a press release.
The committee鈥檚 joint conveners are professor Harun-or-Rashid, Abdullah Kafi Ratan, professor Tanzimuddin Khan, Seema Dutt, Maha Mirza, and Kallol Mustafa.
The release said that the platform would work on all kinds of democratic demands, including ensuring democratic rights and freedom of expression of all citizens of the hills and plains.
It will also work to cancel repressive and anti-people laws, to ensure independence of the judiciary, to protect the rights of workers and farmers, and to ensure a democratic campus free from occupation, the release added.
Fascism is re-established after every mass uprising, and the achievement that comes at the cost of lives is failed, the committee said, adding that this mass uprising cannot be allowed to be failed.
It also said that this committee was formed as a united platform of all the forces participating in the democratic movement.
