
The University Teachers’ Network in a statement on Friday urged all not to harass any teachers or other staff in the educational institutions across Bangladesh.
They also called on everyone to refrain from taking steps, which encouraged violence and established culture of supremacy.
In the past 16 years, the people who had served as chief or held vital administrative post in the Ìýeducational institutions from schools to universities were preferred political identities and loyal to the recently deposed government, said the statement signed by the Dhaka University mass communication and journalism department professor Gitiara Nasreen.
Except some exceptions, most of the educational institutions authorities concerned had become autocrat and imperious with the power of the recently ousted government amid a student-led mass uprising, the statement added.
After the fall of the government, many chiefs of those educational institutions were forced to resign amid the protests of students, the statement said, adding that it had created a vacuum of leadership in schools, colleges and universities.
The statement also mentioned that the interim government was not active enough to filling the gaps of those vacant posts, triggering unacceptable and unwelcomed incidents in those educational institutions, which was sad and condemnable.
The statement, however, said that some opportunists group was trying to take advantage of such situation and destroyed stability in those institutions.
‘We urge all students not to harass anyone personally and involved in violence and establishing supremacy out of anger,’ said Gitiara Nasreen, urging the interim government to take immediate necessary steps to fulfil the vacant posts considering the ongoing situation.
It also urged the government to consult with students and parents to reduce the mistrust created in the past years, and take institutional and administrative initiatives to reduce anger and allegations.
Patuakhali Science and Technology University vice-chancellor Swadesh Chandra Samanto and treasurer Muhammad Ali resigned on Thursday evening, ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· Patuakhali correspondent reported.
Both sent their resignation letters to the education ministry amid student protests against alleged corruption and irregularities.
Md Imadul Haque Prince, deputy registrar of the PSTU's publicity department, confirmed the resignations.
