
The Bangladesh Railway is scheduled to resume services of 10 passenger trains from Chattogram to different destinations of Bangladesh from today (Tuesday) after five days, following the bending of rail tracks and washout of stones due to flood.
One line of the double lines on Feni-Chattogram section, however, would be closed for at least one more week for repairing, said officials.
Rail tracks bent in Feni, Chattogram, and Cox’s Bazar districts while tracks went under water in Habiganj district during the flood.
On Monday night the railway resumed journeys of four trains on Dhaka-Chattogram section.
Earlier railway on August 22 afternoon cancelled journeys of 26 trains fully and five others’ partially connecting Chattogram and Sylhet with different destinations as due to heavy rainfall, soil under the rail tracks washed away bending the tracks in railway’s east zone.
Same day the flood water submerged around 40 to 50 kilometres of rail tracks in Fazilpur area in Feni.
Following heavy rainfall, soil, stones and sleepers washed away from the beneath of rail tracks and therefore the tracks bent on the Fazilpur-Kalidah section in Feni district.
On the Chattogram-Nazirhat-Dohazari-Cox’s Bazar section rail tracks bent after soil washed away for heavy rainfall.
Heavy rainfall also endangered the movement of trains on the Shayestaganj-Laskarpur section and on a rail bridge on the river Khowai in Habiganj district.
Train communications on Dhaka-Sylhet section resumed after two days on August 24 and on Cox’s Bazar-Chattogram section on Sunday.
A press release, issued by Bangladesh Railway on Monday night, read that railway would resume the journeys of Turna Nishitha Express and Chattogram Mail trains on Dhaka-Chattogram and Chattogram-Dhaka sections from Monday night.
From Tuesday morning, 10 passenger trains will run on Dhaka-Chattogram, Chattogram-Dhaka, Cox’s Bazar-Dhaka, Chattogram-Sylhet and Chattogram-Chandpur sections.
From Chattogram, freight trains would also start running from Tuesday, the release mentioned.
The trains will run on the Feni-Chattogram line while the Chattogram-Feni line will remain closed for few days for repairing, the release added.Â
