A Naogaon court on Wednesday sentenced two people to death in a drug case filed in 2023.
Naogaon district and sessions judge court鈥檚 Judge Md Abu Shameem Azad delivered the verdict against Liton Mia, 38, a resident of Goraipara village, and Usuf Ali, 42, a resident of Charbagdanga village in Chapainawabganj, said public prosecutor Md Abdul Khaleque.
He said that the court also fined the convicts Tk 50,000 each.
According to the prosecution, members of the Rapid Action Battalion arrested them at Saraidanga village under Patnitala in Naogaon.
The RAB recovered 700 grams of heroin from the toolbox of the tractor they were riding on August 18 in 2023.
Later, a case was filed against them under the Narcotics Control Act with the Patnitala police station.
PP Abdul Khaleque said that the court witnessed the testimony of eight witnesses in the case.
鈥楢part from establishing justice, a warning message has been sent through this verdict to the drug dealers so that the latter and the youth society refrain from drugs and attempt to establish a drug-free society,鈥� he added.
