Students and political organisations on Friday condemned Indian water aggression in Bangladesh by holding separate demonstrations in the capital.

Demonstrators demanded demolition of all dams built illegally on the common rivers with India to ensure fair share of water.聽


The demonstrations were held amid flash flood in the east, south-eastern and north-eastern districts due to the onrush of water from India.

Students of different educational institutions, including Dhaka University and North South University under the banner of Inqilab Mancha held a cultural protest on the DU campus demanding assurance of natural flow of the common rivers and fair share of water.

They also protested against India for opening the Dumbur dam in Tripura without informing Bangladesh leading to flash flood in the country.

Ali Raihan, executive member of Inqilab Mancha, told 抖阴精品 that India illegally built dams on 30 common rivers depriving Bangladesh of the fair share of water.

Students at the protest built miniature replica of the dams at the Anti-Terrorism Raju Memorial Sculpture and demolished it in protest.

Raihan said that the platform would hold a long march towards the Dumbur dam on Friday.

Islami Chhatra Andolan Bangladesh, student wing of the Islami Andolan Bangladesh, meanwhile, condemned Indian economic, cultural and water aggression in Bangladesh holding a separate rally in front of the Bangladesh National Museum.

Mufti Syed Mohammad Faizul Karim, nayeb-e-ameer of Islami Andolan Bangladesh, said that Indian water aggression in Bangladesh began with the Farakka Barrage.

He said that India illegally controlled waters of the common rivers with dams and deprived Bangladesh of its just shares.

Ishaq Mohammad Abul Khayer, student and youth secretary of the party, said that India had been continuing its economic, cultural and water aggression in Bangladesh.

He alleged that India was responsible for the ongoing flash flood in Bangladesh after Sheikh Hasina鈥檚 resignation and fleeing to India, where she has now taken shelter.

He also warned that India should stop aggression in Bangladesh and return Hasina.聽

Islami Chhatra Andolan Bangladesh organised the rally marking its 33rd founding anniversary protesting at Indian water aggression and demanding justice for victims killed in violence during the student-led mass uprising forcing Sheikh Hasina to resign and flee to India.

Presided over by Islami Chhatra Andolan Bangladesh vice-president Yusuf Ahmad Mansur, the party amir, Syed Muhammad Rezaul Karim, was present as chief guest at the rally.

Later after jumma prayers, leaders and activists of the organisation brought out processions in Paltan and other areas in the capital protesting at India鈥檚 water invasion.

The flash flood in Bangladesh left 54 people dead so far, and over 58 lakh people affected.
