
Sayema Haque Bidisha, a professor at Dhaka university鈥檚 economics department, had been appointed as pro-vice-chancellor (administration) of the university on Monday.
The tenure of Bidisha鈥檚 appointment would be four years from the date of her joining the office, according to an education ministry gazette notification, signed by deputy secretary Md Shahinur Islam following the directive of president Mohammed Shahabuddin, also the chancellor of the university.
Bidisha did her bachelor鈥檚 as well as master鈥檚 from DU鈥檚 economics department. Later, she did her MSc from the University of Bath, UK and PhD in labour economics from the University of Nottingham, UK.
Earlier, Bidisha served as research director (Hon) at South Asian Network on Economic Modelling, Dhaka from 2016 to 2024. She also served as visiting scholar at the economics department of Concordia University, Canada.
Bidisha also worked on various research projects on labour market, demographic dividend and youth population, skill and education, gender and women empowerment, gender budgeting, migration and remittance earning, credit and food security, poverty and vulnerability, SDG financing, and financial inclusion.
In addition, she also contributed to preparing various policy documents and government flagship programmes. She worked with various international and UN agencies.
