The police detained 10 people during an attempted robbery at an Exim Bank branch in the capital’s Gulshan-2 area on Saturday early hours.
The incident took place at a time in one of the capital’s posh areas when the interim government since August 4 has been conducting joint operations to recover illegal arms and bring drug peddlers to book.
Confirming the matter, Gulshan police officer-in-charge Md Touwid Ahmed said that the incident happened at about 2:00am on Saturday.
‘They could not succeed in robbery as we reached the spot and detained them from the spot,’ said Towhid, adding that filing of a case by Sunday morning was underway.
He, however, claimed that they could not trace the political identities, if any, of those detained.
Exim Bank public relations officer Sanjib Chatterjee said that the suspected robbers entered into the Exim Bank Women`s Branch in Gulshan.
‘Robbers could not take or damage anything except uprooting an ATM machine cover,’ Sanjib told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ·.
He said that Exim Bank had sent a law officer to the Gulshan police station on Saturday evening for filing the case.
