
The latest filing of three murder cases takes the total cases to at least 105 brought against deposed prime minister Sheikh Hasina, her sister Sheikh Rehana and her cabinet and party colleagues on murder charges.
The three murder cases were filed in Dhaka and Gazipur on Friday night, Saturday and Sunday.
These cases also include 12 complaints related to crimes against humanity and genocide.
Two of the murder cases were lodged with the Kaliakoir police in Gazipur district on Friday night and Saturday against 217 named accused, including Hasina, her sister Rehana, Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader, former Liberation War Affairs minister AKM Mozammel Haque and former lawmaker Sheikh Helal Uddin.
¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· correspondent in Gazipur reported that the cases were filed on the charges of killing Jashim Fakir, 36, and Shahinur Mahmud Sheikh, 40.
Victim Jashim’s brother Riaz Fakir filed a case on Friday night while Shahinur’s wife filed another case on Saturday morning.
Kaliakoir police officer-in-charge Md Nasim confirmed the news.Â
‘We have recorded both cases,’ the police officer said.
The third case was filed on Sunday against 34 people, including Sheikh Hasina, over the killing of wall painter Babul Hawlader during the recent student movement for quota reforms, state-run news agency Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha reported.
Babul’s widow Monowara Begum filed the case with the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Arobia Khanom.
The court, after recording statement of the complainant, asked the Police Bureau of Investigation to investigate the matter and submit a report.
The other prominent accused in the case are Obaidul Quader and former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan.
According to the case documents, students and people brought out a procession in support of the anti-discrimination movement on July 19 in front of Rampura Better Life Hospital in the capital.
Babul succumbed to his injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on July 28.
Sheikh Hasina resigned as the prime minister and fled to India amid a student-led mass uprising on August 5.
