Chief adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on Monday said that the main focus of the interim government was the law and order situation, stressing that the security situation had improved in the country.

Professor Yunus also said that the interim government had rolled out important reforms in the first month after he took over as the chief adviser.

He made the remarks when the Apostolic Nuncio of the Holy See (ambassador of Vatican) to Bangladesh, Kevin S Randell, paid a courtesy call on him at the state guesthouse Jamuna in Dhaka.

Professor Yunus sought support from the Holy See for reforms and the Rohingya people sheltered in Bangladesh, said the press wing of the chief adviser.

Yunus and the Apostollic Nuncio of the Holy See discussed issues related to Bangladesh鈥檚 religious minorities, inter-faith dialogue, Rogingya humanitarian responses and the UN General Assembly where the chief adviser is expected to speak later this month.

The Vatican envoy said that they had proposed an inter-faith dialogue between the Islamic scholars of Bangladesh and a delegation from the Holy See鈥檚 Dicastery on Interreligious Dialogue.

He also underscored the need for scaling up assistance for more than one million Rohingya people who live in the camps in Bangladesh鈥檚 southeast.

Senior secretary (SDGs affairs) Lamiya Morshed and director general of the foreign ministry Kazi Russel Pervez were present during the meeting.
