Rohingyas are entering Bangladesh in the dark of night through various points of Teknaf dodging the Border Guard Bangladesh and the Coast Guard personnel on duty in the bordering areas with the conflict-riddled Myanmar, according to officials and local people.

‘Rohingya people, fleeing conflict in Myanmar, are entering Bangladesh territory again through different points,’ Teknaf Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Adnan Chowdhury told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· on Monday.

He said that Rohingyas were intruding into Bangladesh evading the members of law enforcement agencies in the dark of night.

The UNO, referring to the information from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that 9,000 Rohingyas had recently entered Bangladesh. ‘We are investigating whether they are entering through any brokers.’

Rohingya community leader Hamid Hossain of Ukhia’s Kutupalong said that Maungdaw in Rakhine state, where most of the Rohingyas live, was under fresh attacks and, that was why, they were trying to escape to Bangladesh by crossing the River Naf.

Gafur Uddin Chowdhury, chairman of Palangkhali Union Parishad of Ukhia Upazila, said that new Rohingyas were entering the camp through the bordering Naf River at night.

He said that the local people were already warned against the Rohingyas fleeing the Rakhine state amid the civil war Myanmar had been facing since 2021.

Demanding strict monitoring of the border security forces, the UP chairman also expressed fear that the influx of Rohingyas might happen again like in 2017.

On Sunday, foreign adviser Md Touhid Hossain said that Bangladesh was already hosting 12 lakh Rohingya people following the 2017 exodus and it could not afford even a single more from Myanmar.

Bangladesh could not send back a single Rohingya person despite various moves since 2018.
