
A Dhaka metropolitan magistrate court on Monday again fixed October 15 for submission of the probe report in the murder case of journalist couple Sagar Sarowar and Meherun Runi.
With this, the deadline for submission of the probe report in the case was deferred for the 111th time.
Dhaka additional chief metropolitan magistrate Mahbubul Haque set the new date for probe submission as the Rapid Action Battalion again failed to submit the report on the day.
The battalion’s media and legal wing director lieutenant colonel Munim Ferdous told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that the interim government was giving the case its highest priority.
‘Our investigation officer is working tirelessly to submit the probe. We will submit the probe progress report at the earliest possible time to the court,’ Munim added.Â
Maasranga Television news editor Sagar Sarowar and his wife ATN Bangla senior reporter Meherun Runi were found brutally murdered at their rented apartment in the capital’s West Rajabazar area on February 11, 2012.
On March 2, 2021, the Rapid Action Battalion submitted a progress report in the Sagar-Runi murder case in an affidavit form to the Attorney General Office.
According to the report, two unidentified people were involved in the murder.
Nousher Ali Roman, brother of Runi, filed a case with the Sher-e-Banglanagar police on the following day.
The police arrested Tanvir Rahman in connection with the murder case on October 1, 2012. Later, he secured bail in 2014.
Law enforcers have so far arrested eight people, including Tanvir, in connection with the murder case.
The seven other suspects are Rafiqul Islam, Bakul Mia, Abu Syed, Mintu alias Baggira Mintu alias Masum Mintu, Quamrul Hasan alias Arun, security guard Enam Ahmed alias Humayun Kabir and Palash Rudra Pal.
