
Students of the Jahangirnagar University and the Rajshahi University on Monday held rallies on their respective campuses to protest against killings of Bangladeshis by the Indian Border Security Force in bordering areas.Â
They stage demonstrations in the backdrop of killing two teenage Bangladesh nationals in BSF firing at separate border points within eight days.
The latest victim of border killing is Jayanta Kumar Sinha, 15, son of Mahadev Kumar Singh of Fakirvita Belpukur under the upazila. He was killed by the Indian Border Security Force near Kantivita border under Baliadangi upazila in Thakurgaon district on Monday.
¶¶Òõ¾«Æ·â€™s JU correspondent reported that the students demonstrated on the campus protesting at the death of 15-year-old Jayanta Kumar Singh, who was shot by the Indian BSF along Baliadangi border in Thakurgaon early Monday.
The demonstrators demanded an immediate end to the continuous killings of Bangladeshis by the BSF.
Addressing the rally, Prapti Taposhi of the economics department said, ‘India's relationship with Bangladesh is by no means a relationship of harmony.’
Speakers at the rally also criticized India’s ‘water aggression’ that reportedly causes flooding in a larger part of Bangladesh during every rainy season.
RU students also protested at the killing of Joyanta by BSF, ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· staff correspondent in Rajshahi reported.
About thirty of them brought out a protest procession on the Rajshahi University campus at about 7:00pm on Monday and met in a brief rally at the Shaheed Intellectual Memorial after parading the main roads on the campus. Â
