Bangladesh Coast Guard has arrested 33 miscreants along with six bulkhead vessels and seven dredgers while they were extracting sand illegally in Chandpur.

Lieutenant Md Siam-ul-Haq, media officer of the Coast Guard headquarters, gave this information on Tuesday, said a press release.


He said that Bangladesh Coast Guard and Chandpur Naval Police conducted a special operation in the Meghna river near Shatnal, Kalipur and Mohanpur launch stations of Uttar Matlab upazila of Chandpur district on Tuesday.

During the operation, six bulkheads and seven dredgers used for illegal sand extraction were seized from the said area and 33 people were arrested. The estimated market value of the seized dredgers and bulkheads is Tk聽9.60 crore.

He further said that the seized bulkhead and dredger were kept in the custody of North Matlab Naval Police and the arrested 33 accused were handed over to North Matlab Naval Police.
