Former Dhaka Metropolitan Police commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia and former Dhaka district additional superintendent of police Abdullahil Kafi have been remanded in police custody for seven days and five days each.

In another development, Border Guard Bangladesh on Thursday morning arrested three people, including former Chattogram-6 constituency lawmaker Fazley Karim Chowdhury.


Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Saiful Islam remanded Asaduzzaman Mia in police custody for seven days in a case lodged over the murder of Nuruzzaman Jony, former general secretary of the Khilgaon Thana unit Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, the student wing of Bangladesh Nationalist Party.

Earlier on Wednesday night, Rapid Action Battalion arrested Asaduzzamàn at Mohakhali in the capital at about 11:00pm.

Asaduzzaman came to light after the media reports portrayed his corruption and amusing illegal wealth In June.

Senior Judicial Magistrate Md Julhash Uddin remanded the suspended Dhaka district additional SP, Abdullahil Kafi, in police custody for fresh five days in a case filed over the murder of Yamin in Savar.

Savar Model Police Station inspector Md Abdullah Biswas, also the investigation officer of the case, produced Kafi before the court with seven-day remand prayer.

Earlier on September 4, Kafi was put on eight-day remand in abduction and extortion case filed with Hazaribagh police station.

On September 2, the DMP detective branch detained Abdullahil Kafi from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport while he was trying to flee from the country.

Meanwhile, BGB on Thursday morning arrested three persons including former lawmaker of Chattogram-6 constituency Fazley Karim Chowdhury while they were fleeing to India through Akhaura border area.

‘A patrol team of the paramilitary forces detained them as they were going to India illegally crossing Abdullahpur of Akhaura bordering area at about 7:00am’, said a BGB press release.

The other arrested are former member of Akhaura’s Nurpur Union Parishad M Hannan Molla and human trafficking gang member M Nayeem Chowdhury.

RAB on Thursday afternoon arrested former Barhatta upazila parishad chairman Khairul Kabir Khokon in the capital’s Kalyanpur area.

RAB media and legal wing director lieutenant colonel Munim Ferdous said that Khairul was accused for opening fire on protesting students on August 4 during the student-led mass uprising.

Khairul was an accused in a murder case filed with the Barhatta police station on August 19.

Dhaka metropolitan magistrate Saifur Rahman on Thursday sent Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal-Jasod president Hasanul Haq Inu, Workers Party president Rashed Khan Menon, former state minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak and former inspector general of police Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun to judicial custody in expiry of their remand period, United News of Bangladesh reported.

Inu was produced before the court after the end of his 16 days of remand in three phases, Menon after 11 days of remand in two phases, Palak after 23 days of remand in three phases, and Mamun after end of 8-day remand.

A petition was also filed to show all of them arrested in a murder case filed with the Khilgaon police station.
