A Jhenaidah court on Friday placed former Awami League lawmaker for Jhenaidah-1 constituency Nayeb Ali Joarder on four-day remand in two separate cases on allegations of attacking, vandalising and setting the Bangladesh Nationalist Party district office and the party鈥檚 district unit president鈥檚 residence on fire on August 4.

Senior judicial magistrate Rumana Afroze granted the remand petition as police聽 produced him before the court seeking ten-day remand in two cases filed with the Jhenaidah Sadar police station on August 19 and August 24, the police station聽 officer-in-charge Shaheen Uddin confirmed it to 抖阴精品.


The OC said that the former lawmaker was in their custody for interrogation.

Members of the Rapid Action Battalion arrested Nayeb Ali Jowardar in the Arappur Bus Stand area of Jhenaidah at about 11:55pm on Thursday, said a RAB press release in the early hours of Friday.

A Dhaka judicial magistrate court, meanwhile, on Friday placed detective branch police inspector Arafat Hossain on three-day remand in a case lodged for allegedly attempting to kill one Robiul聽Sunny.

Dhaka judicial magistrate Rabeya Begum passed the order as police produced Arafat before the court seeking seven-day remand for him in the case.

Sunny filed the case against 30 including ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina on September 11 with the Ashulia police station.

聽The other prominent accused in the case are Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal and Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel.

Earlier in the day, RAB arrested inspector Arafat Hossain in Dhaka鈥檚 Aftabnagar area, ASP Imran Khan of RAB Headquarters confirmed the聽matter.

The RAB-3, meanwhile, arrested Liton Akand early Friday, along with two associates, in Dhaka鈥檚 Jatrabari area for their involvement in violent attack on students and the public during the recent movement of the Student Movement Against Discrimination platform, United News of Bangladesh reported.聽

The arrests were made early this morning at around 2:00am, confirmed ASP Imran Khan of RAB Headquarters.

A video showing Liton wielding a machete and attacking protesters during the student-led mass uprising went viral on social media.

Following the incident, RAB intensified its surveillance to apprehend Liton and his accomplices.

During the raid on Liton鈥檚 hideout at Jatrabari, RAB-3 recovered four machetes, which were allegedly used in the attacks, along with illegal drugs and a quantity of gunpowder.

Liton faces multiple cases, including three cases filed over violence in the Jatrabari area, three cases under the Drug Control Act, one related to preparation for robbery, and one other case.
