Sufibad Sarbajanin Foundation Bangladesh on Saturday held a rally in front of the National Press Club in Dhaka protesting at attacks on shrines across the country.

At the rally, the protesters demanded security for devotees and shrines around the country.

They said that attacks on shrines were clearly acts of extremism in the name of Islam which would provoke Islamophobia around the world.

They also said that they could not term the perpetrators as ‘miscreants’ because they attacked the shrines with bulldozers and locally made weapons in a planned way.

Referring to videos, they said that there were a lot of videos on social media that showed their identities and that now the government should make its position clear over Islamic militancy.

The organisation placed a 10-point demand, including taking immediate steps to stop vandalism at shrines, to protect the shrines and devotees of those shrines.

They urged the government to take steps on an emergency basis to prevent militants.

They also said that if the government failed to stop the militants, people would resist them.

Foundation leader Nasir Uddin said, ‘We want to establish an inclusive society. Otherwise, the harmony in the society will be violated. We have to resist the extremists to establish harmony.’

‘Religious affairs adviser to the interim government must clear his position in this regard as he protected temples and pagodas of the country after the fall of Hasina-led government,’ said Touhidul Islam Chishti Nizami, another foundation leader.

Golam Moinuddin, a member of the foundation, said, ‘The extremists not only vandalised the shrines but also attacked the families of devotees.’

Presided over by the chairman of Sufibad Sarbajanin Foundation Bangladesh Shahsufi Allama Touhidul Islam Chishti Nizami, the event was moderated by its secretary general Maulana Muhammad Anisur Rahman Jafri.
