The interim government’s religious affairs adviser, AFM Khalid Hossain, on Sunday directed the deputy commissioners to take action to protect the shrines across the country.

Regarding the attacks on the shrines, the religious affairs ministry termed it as ‘planned’ and for embarrassing the interim government, said a press release.

Although protesters are staging rallies for the protection of the shrines and the devotees, and for exemplary punishment of the attackers,  attacks on shrines are continuing across the country.

The ministry’s press release mentioned that in the changed situation, some miscreants were attacking in the country’s shrines with an aim to disrupt the country’s law and order situation.

The ministry said that the devotees visited the mausoleum of the saints with respect, following a long period heritage, noting, ‘These attacks are unacceptable and alarming.’

Directing the deputy commissioners to take immediate action if any shrine is under the risk of attack, the ministry has also asked the DCS to take necessary steps to ensure the safe movement of the devotees to the shrines.

The interim government in a statement on Saturday strongly condemned the incidents of attacks on shrines, mentioning that the law enforcing agencies were instructed to take adequate measures to protect the religious shrines and cultural sites.

Bangladesh Aseke Auliya in a recent protest rally in the capital alleged that at least 45 incidents of attacks and vandalism occurred in the shrines since the fall of the Awami League regime on August 5.

Two more shrines were also vandalised in Noakhali and Gazipur on September 13.
