Two more dengue patients died and 299 were admitted to different hospitals in the country during the last 24 hours till Friday morning.

During the period, 167 dengue patients were hospitalised in Dhaka city, while 132 were admitted to different hospitals outside the capital, said a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services on Friday.


Administrator of Dhaka South City Corporation Sher Ali on the same day acknowledged that number of dengue patients was rising in the city, asking all to expedite the anti-mosquito drive.

‘Recently number of dengue patients and subsequent deaths has been increased,’ he said in a coordination meeting of two city corporations at DSCC’s Buriganga Hall.

The DSCC administrator gave instructions to carry out special drive to destroy larva of aedes mosquitos in the breeding places and adjacent areas.

He, however, noted that dengue mortality rate was higher in the outside city corporation areas.

The administrator said that all information about regular drive of the city corporations would be delivered to the media and on the corporation website.

Chief executive officer of DNCC Mir Khairul Alam and all concerned officials were present.

This year, the total number of cases rose to 22,265 while 124 deaths from dengue disease were reported during the period, the statement added.

Last year, the country recorded 1,705 dengue-related deaths and 3,21,179 cases.
