A case has been filed against 127 people, including the former foreign minister Hasan Mahmud and the education minister Mohibul Hassan Chowdhury Nowfel, over shooting and injuring a madrasa student during the Student Movement Against Discrimination. 

About 40–50 unidentified persons were also made accused in the case.


The injured, Md Sujan, 14, son of Md Belal, is a student at Al Jamirul Hayat Madrasa in the Chandgaon area of the city.

Sujan’s uncle Mohammad Riduwan filed the case with the Panchlaish police station on Sunday, said the police station officer-in-charge Md Solaiman.

The Awami League Chattogram City unit president Mahtab Uddin Chowdhury, its general secretary AJM Nasir Uddin, former Chattogram city mayor Rezaul Karim Chowdhury, and former lawmaker Md Mohiuddin Bachchu were also named in the case.

According to the case statement, Sujan was on his way to home from the madrassah on July 18, as he passed the N Mohammad Plastic Showroom in Muradpur area, a confrontation broke out between the accused during the protest.

Sujan was later taken to Chattogram Medical College Hospital where surgery was performed to remove bullet from his leg.
