The Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board has taken measures to address the demands of the ongoing movement by the Palli Bidyut Samity.
The BREB, in a press release on Tuesday, said that it was taking prompt action to implement decisions made during a discussion meeting held between the officials and employees of BREB and PBS, which was presided over by the senior secretaries of the Power Division on July 5.聽
It stated that the committee was formed in accordance with the Power Division memorandum dated August 1 to make recommendations for the rational resolution to various issues鈥攊ncluding the demand for a common service code and integration for BREB and PBS鈥攈as held three meetings so far.
The employees currently engaged in contract-based line crew positions have been regularised in their roles to fill the regular vacancies in the organisational structure, it said.
The weekly holiday has been set for two days, and a special incentive of 5 per cent has been made effective from the specified date.
The proposal to provide electricity bill benefits to the officials and employees of the PBS was submitted to the Power Division, and a committee was formed to provide financial assistance to the family members of any official or employee who passes away, including coverage of funeral costs, the release said.
Monthly meetings are being organised to enhance the relationship between BREB and PBS.
According to a United News of Bangladesh report on August 27, about 40,000 employees and officers from 80 PBSs nationwide raised demands, including an end to discrimination in service terms, securing permanent employment status, and the implementation of uniform employment rules.聽
The PBSs operate under the administrative control of the BREB and play a crucial role in the country鈥檚 electrification efforts.
