A group of female students staged a protest rally, demanding justice for those directly and indirectly involved in the attacks on female students during the recent Students’ Movement Against Discrimination, at the base of the Anti-Violence Raju Memorial Sculpture on Dhaka University campus on Thursday.Â
Coordinators of the movement, Nusrat Tabassum and Ashrefa Khatun, the DU students Meherin Sokal and Nahida Sultana, among others, spoke at the rally.
Besides, the movement’s coordinators Hannan Masud and Mahin Sarkar also spoke at the rally.
The female students expressed their frustration, saying that no action has yet been taken against those involved in the attacks on female students.
Abdul Hannan Masud, one of the coordinators of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, said that the university administration took office more than a month ago, but they have failed to bring the Chhatra League terrorists who targeted women under the law.
‘Everyone involved, including the former Vice-Chancellor, Proctor, and Chhatra League leaders who attacked our sisters, must be brought to justice,’ he added.
Nusrat Tabassum, another coordinator, stated, ‘It is shameful that two months after this movement ended, we are still standing here at Raju.’
‘We will not sit in the same class as the League’s terrorists, we will not stay in the same dormitory as them,’ she said adding ‘If any member of the administration is found rehabilitating these terrorists, we will identify them as collaborators and demand their punishment.’
Nusrat Tabassum warned that if justice is not ensured, female students across the country will take to the streets, and female students may refuse to return to classes until justice is served.
Mahin Sarker, another coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, said that they want to know from the administration how the Chhatra League terrorists who injured our sisters are still attending classes.
‘We also demand accountability from the government as to why these terrorists are still roaming freely,’ he said.
