
The Rapid Action Battalion on Friday arrested one more person accused of killing Bangladesh Army Lieutenant Tanzim Sarwar Nirjon in a joint operation in Cox’s Bazar.
RAB-15 and other law enforcement agencies arrested accused Md Sadek, 41, in a joint drive in the Fasiakhali area under Chakaria police station in Cox’s Bazar early Friday.
On secret information, the joint force launched a raid at around 2:15am on Friday and arrested Sadek, the RAB said, adding that Sadek, son of Fasiakhali resident Md Khairuzzaman, confessed to his involvement in murdering Tanzim during primary interrogation.
The RAB said that they had handed over Sadek to the Chakaria police.
Chakaria police officer-in-charge Manjur Kader Bhuiyan said that the accused was sent to jail.
‘Seven people have been arrested so far in connection with the murder and all of them are now in jail,’ the OC added.
Tanzim, 23, was stabbed to death by suspected robbers during a drive in the Purba Maizpara area under Chakaria upazila in Cox’s Bazar early Tuesday.
Two cases were filed with the Chakaria police station on Wednesday and six people were arrested in connection with murder of Lieutenant Tanzim Sarwar Nirjon at Chakaraia upazila in Cox’s Bazar early Tuesday.
The Bangladesh Army revealed identities of the six people on Wednesday after detaining them from Chakaria upazila in Cox’s Bazar early Tuesday for their alleged involvement in the killing.
The arrested are Babul Prokash, 44, Helal Uddin, 34, Anowar Hakim, 28, Arif Ullah, 25, Ziabul Karim, 45, and Md Hossain, 39.
