A band of miscreants snatched Tk 7 lakh from the Sonali Bank sub-branch of Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital, injuring four people, including two bank officials and two Ansar members, by attacking them and firing shots on Sunday afternoon in the Rothkhola area of Gazipur City.

The injured are Atika Parvin Surovy, 39, the in-charge of the STAMC Sonali Bank sub-branch, cash officer Farzana Naznin Shimu, 27, and Ansar members Al-Amin, 30, and Raju Mia, 40.

While traveling to the main branch of the bank in an auto-rickshaw with cash from the sub-branch around 5:00pm, they were obstructed by 10 to 12 youths on six motorcycles, according to local residents and Gazi Shahiduzzaman, assistant general manager of the Sonali Bank court building branch.

Witnesses reported that when the victims attempted to stop the thieves from taking the bags, the assailants attacked them and fired shots.

Shahiduzzaman stated that all four injured individuals are currently undergoing treatment at the hospital.

Inspector Rahedul Islam of the Gazipur Metropolitan Police Sadar police station mentioned that they dispatched police personnel after receiving news of the incident.
