
Two more youth who sustained bullet injuries during the student-led mass uprising died while undergoing treatment at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital and the Combined Military Hospital in Dhaka on Monday.
The deceased, Mohammad Karimul, 22, a worker at Jatrabari wholesale market, died at the Intensive Care Unit at the DMCH, said the DMCH police outpost in-charge Md Faruk.
Md Hamidul, uncle of Karimul, said that Karimul was shot three times when police opened fire in front of the Jatrabari police station on the afternoon of August 5. Local residents later had taken him to the DMCH.
Karimul, hailing from Habiganj district, had been married for just a year, and his widow is currently three months pregnant, he added.
Abdul Motalab, the assistant in-charge of the CMH morgue, said that Saiful Hasan Arif, 21, passed away around 4:55am in the ICU of CMH.
Arif, a student from Feni, was shot in the head at the CRB area in Chattogram, and was admitted to the CMH on September 9.
Motalab, however, could not provide further details about the deceased.聽
The protests, held since July 1, flared into a mass uprising towards the end of the month and overthrew the Awami League government on August 5.
On September 24, the Directorate General of Health Services came up with a preliminary list of 708 having died in the protests and subsequent uprising.聽
The health affairs sub-committee of the Student Movement against Discrimination, however, at a press conference on September 28 said that they prepared a list of 1,581 people who were martyred in the movement.
